These are general guidelines. Your provider may give you instructions that are specific to your treatment. Always follow those first. If you think you are having a medical emergency, call 911.
Step 1
Before Your Appointment
- If your doctor approves, avoid alcohol and blood-thinning supplements such as fish oil and vitamin E for a day or two beforehand to lower bruising. Never stop a prescribed medication without asking your doctor.
- Tell us if you get cold sores. We may recommend an antiviral before lip filler.
- Try to avoid dental work for 2 weeks before and after filler.
- Book at least 2 weeks before a big event so any swelling or bruising has time to settle.
Step 2
After Your Treatment
- Lip filler: avoid using a straw for 1 week.
- Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, hot yoga and alcohol for 24 to 48 hours.
- Sleep on your back with your head slightly raised the first night.
- Do not massage or press on the treated area unless your injector tells you to.

What’s Normal
- Swelling, tenderness and bruising that fade over a few days. Lips often look their most swollen on day 2.
- Mild firmness or small bumps that soften over the first 2 weeks.
- Your final result shows at about 2 weeks.

- Call us right away for skin that turns white, gray, blue or blotchy, or pain that gets worse instead of better. These are rare but need same-day care.
