Simple steps to get the best results from CoolPeel CO2 laser resurfacing on any area, and what to expect while you heal.
These are general guidelines. Your provider may give you instructions that are specific to your treatment. Always follow those first. If you think you are having a medical emergency, call 911.
Step 1
Before Your Appointment
- Avoid moderate to intense sun exposure, tanning and self-tanner for at least 2 weeks.
- Stop retinoids and exfoliating acids 5 to 7 days before.
- Tell us if you get cold sores. We may recommend an antiviral before treatment.
- Come with clean skin and no makeup. We apply numbing cream before we start.
Step 2
After Your Treatment
- No makeup for 48 hours.
- Avoid moderate to intense sun exposure, heavy sweating and exercise for 24 to 48 hours.
- Sleep on a clean pillowcase and sheets the night after treatment, with your head slightly raised to reduce swelling.
- Stay hydrated. It helps your results.
- Do not pick or scrub the rough texture. It sheds on its own.
- Follow the post-care instructions for your kit and from your provider, and wear sunscreen before any sun exposure.

- Redness for 24 to 48 hours.
- Rough, sandpaper-like skin for up to a week.
- Best results at 6 to 8 weeks. CoolPeel can be repeated every 4 to 6 weeks.
